Erik R. Golant
Erik Richard Golant left life as he entered it – struggling for survival, full of unparalleled talent and complexity, commanding center stage at every opportunity, giving his heart and soul to those who were pained while hiding from his own demons, and challenging every conventional belief that could not stand up to his searing logic.
Erik died December 11 at the age of 39, but he lived several lifetimes in those short years and left friends and family in Minnesota, Texas, Colorado, Massachusetts, Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia, Washington D.C., New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. His sharp wit and strong defense of articulate expression earned equal amounts of respect and exasperation, and his love of simple pleasures – cooking, fishing, gardening, the outdoors – formed connections with a wide spectrum of social circles.
Erik Golant was born and raised in Allentown, graduating from Allen High in 1997, and attended Community College in Texas. His love of life’s simple pleasures is celebrated and cherished, and his recognition of life’s challenges are remembered and respected.
Erik’s love for music led him to work as a DJ in both Texas and Pennsylvania, capturing attention and appreciation from more people than he ever imagined. His skilled photography and perceptive eye combined to express beauty both obvious and hidden, celebrate life and nature, memorialize family and friends, and capture the bittersweet essence of life.
Erik is survived by his father and stepmother, Joseph and Denise Golant in Allentown, and his mother, Patricia Olver, in Minnesota. A private memorial service celebrating his life will be scheduled in the future at Erik’s favorite beach. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation in Erik’s name to Partners for A New Beginning, a non-profit Lehigh Valley organization, via mail at P.O. Box 285, Nazareth PA 18064, or online at partners4anewbeginning.org.
