Thomas L. Carney

Thomas L. Carney, 69, of Bethlehem, died Thursday at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown.  Born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, he was a son of the late Leo and Mildred (Ferguson) Carney. 
Thomas earned a Master's degree in Library Science from the University of Iowa, and was the library director at the Cedar Rapids Library, as well as an adjunct professor of Library Science at the University for 10 years.  He also volunteered at the Anamosa Men's Prison library during this time. 
Mr. Carney was a member of the Cedar Rapids Rotary Club as well as the American Library Association (ALA), and served on the board of directors of the Salvation Army and the YMCA.  In 1987 he moved to New Jersey, working as library director for the Warren County Library and retiring after 20 years. 
 
Survivors:  He is survived by his partner of 13 years, Tom Baldwin of Bethlehem; son Brent Carney and wife Rozalia of Bethlehem Twp; daughter Brooke Kish and husband Warren of Evergreen, CO; brother David Carney and sister Patricia O'Brien, both of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren William and Isabelle Kish; and several nieces & nephews.

Services:  Private.  The Nicos C. Elias Funeral Home of Allentown is assisting the family.
