Joseph Kochan

Joseph (Rocky) Kochan, 86, of Allentown died Friday Jan. 25, 2013. Joe was the loving husband of Dorothy (Hanna) Kochan for the past 67 years. Born Mar. 7, 1926 in Northampton, he was a son of the late Anthony and Xenia (Salasky) Kochan. He served in the CCC's helping to build Arlington National Cemetery before serving in the Navy during WW II. He was employed at Chicken Land known as "Joe the Chicken Man" and at the Lehigh Valley Dairy for over 25 years until his retirement in 1987. He also served as a crossing guard in Allentown where he was honored as Crossing Guard of the Year.
 
Joe was a member of St. Paul Orthodox Church in Emmaus. He was past president and board member of St. George Orthodox Church, Allentown where he also sang in the choir. He had also been extremely active in the Alton Park Youth League where he was a board member, coached football, midget and knee-high baseball for many years.


Survivors: wife Dorothy; loving children Diane Yacoub and her late husband Ken, Thomas and wife Kathleen, Joseph and wife Gail; grandchildren Natalie, Christina, Jason, Jessica, Jeffrey, Amanda, Matthew and Sara; great-grandchildren Nicholas, Christopher, Alexander, Ashleigh, Drew, Clayton, Cassenia, Gregory and Cole. Joe was predeceased by five brothers, Basil, Michael, John, Steven and Daniel Kochan and two sisters, Marie Messineo and Ann Newmark.

Services: Viewing on Monday evening, Jan. 28 from 6-8 p.m. in the Nicos C. Elias Funeral Home, 1227 W. Hamilton St., Allentown. Funeral service Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in St. George Orthodox Church, 1011 Catasauqua Ave., Allentown. Call one hour prior in church. Interment at Laurel Cemetery.
