Rosemarie (Mazurowski) Bernick, 84, long time resident of Bethlehem, PA and Naples, FL, passed away peacefully on August 13, 2017.
Rosemarie was born on November 1, 1932 in Buffalo, NY to Frank and Mary Mazurowski. She graduated from D’Youville College in 1954 with a BS in Nursing and worked as a RN in hospitals and then as a visiting nurse. She returned to college and earned a MSN in Nursing Administration from Seton Hall. Rosemarie retired in 1987 as Executive Director of the VNA of Somerset Hills. Rosemarie gained notoriety as the first woman to undergo a hysterectomy under hypnosis as covered by Good Housekeeping in 1981.
Rosemarie’s first job was as a mother and homemaker. Rosemarie raised 5 children and moved 7 different times to 5 different states. She sewed clothing and curtains. She renovated and remodeled homes including 7 rentals. She was an adventurous chef who taught all her children how to cook. In her retirement Rosemarie pursued her passion for travel, nature, gardening, flower arranging, painting, playing bridge and golf.
Rosemarie will be sadly missed by her husband of 63 years, Joseph C. Bernick, Saucon Valley Manor, Hellertown, PA and her surviving children John Bernick of Northampton, PA, Julie Bernick of St. Croix, VI, Matthew Bernick of Westminster, CO, and Donald Bernick and his wife Amy of Hampton, NJ. Rosemarie was predeceased by her 4 older siblings and her eldest son Mark Bernick. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren, James, Rachel, David, Daniel, Luke and Gwenyth Bernick.
