Catherine C. Burgi-Rios

Catherine C. Burgi-Rios, of Bethlehem, died Friday at Hershey Medical Center at age 55. She was married to Barb Baus for the past 15 years. Born in Queens, NY, she was a daughter of Peter Simon Burgi and Rosalie "Lee" Burgi, living in Bern, Switzerland.
Catherine was an active member of Metropolitan Community Church of Allentown. She worked as an operating room nurse at Lehigh Valley Hospital for over 11 years, after receiving her RN degree from Elizabeth General Medical Center and starting her nursing career in OB/Labor & Delivery.
She was a captain in the Lehigh Valley chapter of Silent Witness, volunteered with the Obama campaign at the Bethlehem office, and a big supporter of the Easton Farmer's Market. Catherine has lived in many places in the world including Milwaukee, Monrovia (Liberia), Zurich, Nairobi (Kenya) and Westfield, NJ.
Survivors: Parents; wife Barb; daughter Jessica & husband Daniel; son Josh Rios; brothers Peter Thomas and wife Mary of Chicago and Michael and wife Christine of Aberdeen, NJ; sister Anne of Lisbon, Portugal; 8 nieces & nephews; many cousins, aunts and uncles. She was also anticipating her new grandson to be, Benjamin.

Services: Calling hours on Wednesday, Sep. 26 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. at Nicos C. Elias Funeral Home, 1227 W. Hamilton St., Allentown. Directions at www.eliasfuneralhome.com.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Metropolitan Community Church, 930 N. 4th St., Allentown with Rev. Elizabeth Goudy officiating. Call from 12 noon until 1:00.
