Laureen M. Sassano
09/09/2012

Laureen M. Sassano, 62, of Catasauqua, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012 in the comfort of her home with her family. She was the loving wife of Peter Sassano. They have been married for 42 years. Laureen was born on November 13, 1950 in Hazleton, PA. She was an excellent nurse, ranking second highest in her nursing class. She helped found Parents Reaching Out to Parents (PROP), a self-help group for parents who have experienced the death of a child, after the loss of her son, Michael. She was a member of Compassionate friends of the Lehigh Valley, a support group for grieving parents, where she helped collate the newsletter and wrote articles for many years. The job she was most proud of, however, was being a mother and raising her children. Laureen loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren. Aiden, her grandson, will miss joking around and laughing with his Nana. Laureen had a wonderful sense of humor and could always make you laugh. Her favorite hobby was eating breakfast out. She loved food and was a wonderful cook passing down recipes to her children. When she gets to heaven, God will have a tall glass of chocolate milk waiting for her at the pearly gates. Laureen was a very talented artist, often drawing for her family. She would go swimming almost every day in the past few years of her life. She loved all animals, dogs, cats, birds. She was a grand “meow” to three cats, Tink, Belle and Noelle. Laureen also loved to read and has hundreds of books to prove it. She loved music of all types, but mainly the Temptations. Survivors: Husband, Peter Sassano of Catasauqua, PA; son, Phillip Sassano of Catasauqua, PA; daughter, Adriana DiNenno and son-in law, Joe DiNenno, Jr. of Coatesville, PA; daughter, Stefanie Schrampf and son-in law Erik Schrampf of Phoenixville, PA; and grandchildren, Aiden and Claire Schrampf. Services: A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family. Contributions: In lieu of flowers, please send monetary contributions for helping out with funeral costs to Laureen’s husband Peter Sassano.
