Mrs. Volk spent more than thirty-five years as a teacher, supervisor and educational consultant. Her area of expertise was cognitive skills and reading problems. The final years of her career were spent at Freedom High School, working with students and faculty as a reading  and college preparatory specialist. She was a much loved and gifted teacher.

Mrs. Volk was born in Philadelphia and attended the prestigious Girls High School, a school for the academically gifted. There she was selected as the Outstanding Senior, an award elected by the faculty, for her academic achievements and her public service to the school and the community. Her dedication to education and public service were the hallmarks of her career and her personal life. After graduating from Penn State, she came to the Lehigh Valley to do doctoral graduate work at Lehigh University and settled in Allentown.

Mrs. Volk received many awards and accolades throughout her life. She especially cherished her Alumni Award from Lehigh University for Outstanding Service to the School of Education and the Founder's Choice Award for Properties of Merit, given to her and her late husband, James Volk, for the renovation of their home.
